Casual Enemy Gunfire
The Troop camp site was not a recognised target of the enemy and the majority of shells landing were overshoots aimed at Little Gibraltar. Occasionally US self-propelled howitzers would fire from gun emplacements at the bottom of the re-entrant to our base camp and this would inevitably result in a few shells coming in, but long after our American gunners had departed!
John Parnell says
I have since learnt that both the pilot and observer parachuted safely to ground, unfortunately behind the Chinese lines and were taken prisoner.
