Unfortunately during our re-visit, we could not get close to Little Gibraltar as that was bang in the middle of the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone). We did however enter the building in the neutral zone where the armistice was signed.
It is an almost totally unfurnished room with a central long table which has a table-top flag of the UN and China towards either end. A 24 hour vigil is kept, with motionless South Korean and Chinese guards staring at each other. The South Korean guards were well over 6 feet in height and extremely smart. The UN personnel now patrolling the DMZ perimeter fence consist of South Korean and US military. True to form, some tunnels below the wired territories have been found!
Our hosts, the American officers looked after us exceedingly well, including a meal in their mess before returning to our hotel in Seoul.
